Angelina Jolie 2 by ThomasMMadsen Angelina Jolie 2 by ThomasMMadsen
Here we go, hehe... yes, it's yet another Angelina Jolie portrait, and this time in full colour! Colured pencils aren't easy to handle (at least I don't think so), but they're supposed to get really cool as soon as you get the hang of using them. Apparantly...
And I'd really, really, really like to live in her big mansion and feed her with grapes. Every day.

The most beautiful A. Jolie drawing I've ever seen, and since it has been done with the colored pencils, it goes straight to my faves :).
Well done.

I can not believe this was done with color pencils...Perhaps I am thinking of the 9.99 special at k-mart though. You did very good on this really.

Amazing, just one question did you scan the image in or take a photo.

I am only wondering why you did the hair in light brown. On the original photo it's almost black.
I hope to see more coloured pencil artworks, you are very talented!
Just a question: do you use some grid at the beginning? The proportions are very good.

Hi, and thanks! :D
About the hair colour; well... that was mostly a practical solution on my part. I had (and still has) very limited experience with coloured pencils prior to this drawing, and so I had difficulties obtaining a deep, dark brown colour without sacrificing richness to it. I hope this answers your question... ;)
As for grids? I never use them. I made a hasty attempt to save some work time on a project a couple of years ago, but I thought it made the process very mechanical. No fun at all. Instead I always spend a lot of time getting the proportions right, turning the drawing upside-down or putting it to rest for a day or two, in order to keep a fresh eye on it all. :)

I have the same opinion about the grid method. Although it's much more difficult to draw, and sometimes it's really frustrating, and the result is (at least in my case) not perfect. :O_o:

Lookin good, colored pencils are the way. Have you experimented with different papers and brands of colored pencils? They vary more than most would think.

Hey, thanks! :)
Actually I haven't had much experience with coloured pencils at all, to be quite honest. This specific Jolie picture was only my second effort, using a regular Gran D'ache coloured set. Since then I've converted entirely to digital work, but I'll definitely experiment some more with those pencils at some point.
Thanks for your comment! :D

Very impressive work, tommelibom. The likeness is spot on! Even if she is a freaky ho, she is a fine looking one I must admit.

Beautiful! I hope when I try colored pencils I can manage something even close to that. Two suggestions: her face seems a tad too long and thin, and her eyes should have more olive green in them, at least based on most of the photos I've seen of her (sometimes they do look bluish--colored contacts?).
